Apart from 3D Printed House technology, as you may remember from our previous headlines (A Huge Game-Changer in Interplanetary Research: We Can Now 3D Print LED), 3D printing has become a very promising industry with a lot of opportunities waiting around, and this one is no different. The 3D-printed futuristic housing job started in Oregon. Though it is a small venture now with a target of 100 houses in the next five years, it still marks a milestone in both real estate and 3D printing technology.

The company, Alquist 3D, also made it into the news when they finished building the first fully printed house in the U.S. in December. Together with the city manager, Nick Green, they are hoping to provide affordable and sustainable housing to the city’s residents.

What do 3D printed houses promise?

They claim that a 3D printed house would cost significantly less than a normal house, which can relieve some stress from the wallets of the residents. The construction is said to be started in spring 2022, while it is projected that up to 12 houses are expected to have been built by the end of the year. Which is a fast build time for this many houses.

It is also claimed that these houses can last for up to two centuries. And it is usually said that due to the technique and materials, they are resistant to fire and some other hazards. There are also claims that the technology will bring very fast construction times and will reduce building hazards, noise, and similar side effects.

What are some concerns about the technology?

The technology has actually been tried in many places of the world. While they provide a good alternative, people are worried that these projects are just overpromising. Some claim that the low build times are just a result of them not working on the house infrastructure. Others claim that the houses are not safe like a reinforced concrete building. While some people criticize these projects for pretending to be sustainable even though they are actually wasting a lot of energy.

However, as public housing is becoming a big issue in many parts of the world, it is relieving to see that some action is being taken. Though most technologies in this field require a lot of improvements before their wide-scale adoption, the promise and action are there. We should support those who want to provide a sustainable future for us!
