Razer N95 Mask Scandal: Do Not Believe Every Claim You See on Web

Futuristic voice-amplifying chromatic Cyberpunk masks? Think again…

While Razer is a well-respected, if not the most respected gaming gear company out there, the claims about the N95 certification on their masks are very questionable. After the Amazon lawsuit we previously wrote about, another tech controversy was not received well by the community. Recently, with one of their high-tech masks, Zephyr, Razer claimed to have N95 requirements for the mask. However, both in the CDC’s website and the actual certifications, some parties did not find the corresponding information. In Naomi Wu’s recent tweet, a piece of information that claims Razer will remove the N95 claims from the marketing has come to the light.

And as the final straw of the event, the company finally removed the N95 claims from Zephyr’s marketing. Now, they explicitly state that “This is not an N95 Mask/Respirator.”

Razer N95 Mask Certification, what does it tell us?

Well, the first thing we should infer is that we should not believe every marketing team. It can be a simple mistake that may cost you to wear products that do not work in the way you are told. Especially in the pandemic apparel side of things, checking products, and double-checking, if they are for cosmetic purposes as well, might be the better thing to do. However, we respect the company for taking the appropriate action too little too late, the mask turning to be an air-purifier at the end was an interesting surprise.

The company also claimed that “they have done the tests” for the mask in a recent tweet, however, the certification was still a bit shaky. So, the lesson here is to even though something is from a big company and seemingly trustworthy, do your own research.

Lastly…

While Razer is usually a fun talk in the gamer community with their high quality, high price-tagged, ornate and pompous products, they are still a good company. Every once in a while, companies make mistakes, however, a mistake in the medical industry, especially in a time of the pandemic, is something to be avoided. Every medical instrument should be checked dozens of times and marketed according to its qualifications with no exceptions. We hope this news can bring attention to the cosmetic pandemic apparel industry’s danger.
