Producing Cars on Mars? Elon Musk Wants To Do This

Space enthusiast Elon Musk is known to colonize Mars by 2050 through his company SpaceX. Now, Musk says he wants to build Tesla’s first off-planet company before his death.

CEO of SpaceX and Tesla attended the latter’s shareholder meeting last week in Austin, Texas, in which he gave this speech following a question by one of the attendees.

Musk on Off-Planet Factory

When asked about building vehicles out of the world, Musk responded: “Off-planet factory? I like the way you think.”

“So, we are many years before Tesla’s first off-planet factory,” he said. “I mean, I would like to see one before I am dead. That would be cool.”

The 50-year-old billionaire did not directly point to Mars in his answer, but it is known that the place he has in mind is the Red Planet.

Elon Musk said previously in late 2020 that he was “highly confident” that SpaceX will land humans on Mars by 2026, describing the goal achievable.

According to CNET, “The important thing is that we establish Mars as a self-sustaining civilization,” said Musk during a Clubhouse interview.

Currently having four facilites on Earth, Tesla is building two more, one of which is in Germany’s Berlin and the other one in Austin, Texas, also known as Gigafactory Texas.

Though Elon Musk touched upon the idea of establishing a facility in space, this is nothing new.

Jeff Bezos’ Idea to Relocate Polluting Industries

Founder of Amazon and space company Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos, spoke of the relocation of polluting industries into space last July.

“We need to take all heavy industry, all polluting industry, and move it into space. And keep Earth as this beautiful gem of a planet that it is,” Bezos told MSNBC after successful Blue Origin flight.
