#AppleShower: Bizarre Apple Meme Trend of 2022 and a History of Apple Memes

Recently a hashtag called “#appleshower” became the top trending technology topic in Japan, and I took the liberty of researching it a little since it did not seem like a technological update like foldable iPhone’s (Read: Apple Testing for the First Ever Foldable iPhone: Excited for iPhone 14 Maybe-Foldable?). It turns out that the topic was about an iPhone user asking about a fix and a voice actress replying that she had showered with her iPhone to clean it as a joke. Turns out that the voice actress Moeka Kazumi had started the meme when she damaged her iPhone because of water when she mistakenly took it to the shower.

Even though it is a little bit misinforming about the iPhone’s waterproof status not being there, It caused some really nice art pieces to come to light, so, all is well.

#appleshower is not the first Apple meme

Well, before there has been misinformation about the iPhone fixes. Of course, very few would try to wash their iPhones. However, internet jokes sometimes take it a little far. The first joke about the iPhone fixes started when a group of pranksters on the Internet claimed that the new software update on the iPhone IOS7 made it waterproof. It was not real as you know, however, the group came up with really professional marketing tools, posters, and social media presence that some people actually damaged their iPhones because of it. Another one you might remember is that a similar group also claimed that you can fast-charge your iPhone if you microwave it, which was a very dangerous thing to do. Once again, they came up with pretty believable marketing and some people fell for it, which created the iPhone wave memes. Or iPhone bend prank which made users bend their phones to their breaking points due to fake marketing on the web.

However, the “#appleshower” memes seem to be a very innocent format of internet memes. It mainly consists of people creating art and doing voice-acting performances about showering their iPhones.

#appleshower: Does Apple fix it if you shower your phone?

Well, it is known that water damage does not get fixed in the basic warranty but according to Applecare + information, you can fix it for 99 $. Still, please do not put your iPhones to showers just for the memes.
