New AMD Ryzen MCU3 CPU Addition Reduces Tesla Range by 22 km : A Weird Cut
Ever thought that your Ryzen powered gaming PC was eating too much electricity, well now you know how much it does thanks to Tesla.

As Tesla continues to change the transportation scene with electric cars, the new addition to their information page about the Model 3 Ryzen MCU3 CPU made everyone chuckle a little bit. As the recent tweet from Teslascope showed, “the hardware change to new computer” requires more power consumption and causes a “minor drop in range” which is approximately “22 kilometers.”

Did Ryzen cause a significant range drop for Tesla?
Well, not really… The Model 3 can still go for 602 kilometers, which means that the drop was around 3.4%. And while it is not significant, it was just a good reminder of how much power goes to the computer really. We also appreciate them for informing everyone about the range changes and updating their customer page as soon as possible. We should also say that the range changes were not only for Model 3 but for every new line of cars that had the same computer. However, the range change on the other models was not explicitly stated and associated with the computer hardware update.

How much did the other models of Tesla change because of the Ryzen CPU?
According to an article at InsideEVs, the other model’s changes are like the ones stated as such:
- Model 3 RWD (no changes)
18″ wheels: 510 km (317 miles)
19″ wheels: 491 km (305 miles) - Model 3 LR AWD
18″ wheels: 626 km (389 miles), down by 11 km or 1.7% from 637 km
19″ wheels: 602 km (374 miles), down by 12 km or 2.0% from 614 km - Model 3 Performance
20″ wheels: 547 km (340 miles), down by 20 km or 3.5% from 567 km - Model Y LR AWD
19″ wheels: 565 km (351 miles), up by 28 km or 5.2% from 537 km
20″ wheels: 533 km (331 miles), up by 26 km or 5.1% from 507 km - Model Y Performance
21″ wheels: 514 km (319 miles), up by 34 km or 7.1% from 480 km

Well, this is just a minor update caused by a power-hungry computer chip that can do everything much faster and efficiently. There is not much to talk about it, but we appreciate honest customer updates and information display.
