Mercedes-Benz Will Develop Promising Solid-State EV Batteries

Mercedes, a company everyone knows for its quality cars, is also searching for ways to make a name for itself in the electric vehicle industry. In their latest press release, they have announced that they are partnering up with Taiwan-based ProLogium, one of the industry leaders on solid-state EV batteries.

It was announced that Mercedes-Benz was to make a “high-double digit million euros investment” in the company to develop the next-generation battery.  While a lot of companies try to take their share of electric vehicles (Read: Sony Unveils Its Interesting Plan to Make Electric Cars), this investment is still one of the bigger ones since it addresses the battery and range problem of EVs.

What is Mercedes’ plan?

The company’s first vehicles were already powered with solid-state’s from ProLogium. Both companies are trying to take this partnership up a notch by trying to develop the next big thing in the electric vehicle world. According to the press release,

The companies also agreed on milestones that would enable integration of the solid-state battery technology into a range of passenger vehicles in the second half of the decade.

As most people compare electric vehicles with their range and battery usage, a new electric vehicle that can be effectively compared with an actual passenger fossil fuel vehicle would be an amazing development to see. Other than boosting the electric vehicle industry to the sky, it would also make sustainable electric cars the norm and help as an extra effort for a greener future. The new plans and developments are expected to be revealed in 2022.

With Ford’s electric vehicle pushes, legal funding that strengthens the switch to electric cars, and even game companies entering the scene, the technology that will be born from this competition will surely be exciting. We will be waiting for the newest developments.
