Sony Unveils Its Interesting Plan to Make Electric Cars

According to Sony’s “Press Release” on January 5, the company is improving their electric vehicle plan titled “VISION-S” and opening “Sony Mobility Inc. in the spring of 2022”. While the electric vehicle craze still goes on in the world and everything seems to point towards an EV-filled future (Read: Indirect Emission of EVs are Favorable, at least after 2035, New Research Suggests), the industry seems like a no-brainer to most tech companies. Though, people are surprised to see that a game company had taken a step towards it.

What is Sony’s VISION-S?

Sony first introduced VISION-S as a mobility alternative in 2020 and started testing for it in the December of 2020 as well. However, the new thing about the project is that they are going formal with a company named “Sony Mobility Inc.” this spring. To further detail the project, it is Sony’s attempt to create their own electric vehicle armed with their technological devices that are also produced by the company. SUV-type prototype vehicle (VISION-S 02) as a new form factor. This vehicle uses the same EV/cloud platform as the prototype (VISION-S 01), which is being tested on public roads. By offering entertainment experiences utilizing the large interior space and variations of a 7-seater, this new prototype will, together with VISION-S 01, promote the accommodation of a large variety of lifestyles within a society where values are becoming increasingly diversified.

So they are making an all-around family high-tech EV as you can tell. While the press release also tells that the vehicle’s focus is adaptability and entertainment, you might as well read it from the source since they gave a lot of details that are hard to put into a summary. Basically, it will be comfortable and entertaining for a family while also being adaptable to any environment and situation.

The EV frenzy

While some people criticize the EV industry for being a huge bubble nowadays, it is still one of the most promising technologies existing in the world right now. As some companies take advantage of the investment that the EV buzzword brings, some also will do it properly and give it justice. We hope that Sony will be the latter and make everyone meet with a high-tech beast of a vehicle.
