Yandex To Double Self-Driving Fleet In 2020
Russian tech giant will launch 100 new self-driving cars, according to the company.

Russia-based tech company Yandex is getting ready for launching new unmanned vehicles within the scope of the Yandex self-driving car project.
Yandex announced that 100 fourth-generation unmanned vehicles branded Hyundai Sonata would hit the road in Russia and the US in 2020.
“By the end of 2020, the Yandex fleet will add a hundred of such vehicles. In addition to testing in Moscow, some of them will be used in the unmanned taxi service in Innopolis,” the company said.
The vehicles will also join Yandex’s fleet in Michigan, US, according to the statement.
Yandex collaborate with Hyundai Motor CIS and Hyundai Mobis, and the company’s vehicles already took the road in Moscow last March.
Dmitry Polishchuk, Head of Yandex Self-Driving, said that they assembled their first self-driving Hyundai Sonata prototype last summer in just a month.
“With the fourth-generation of our self-driving car, we were able to more closely integrate our technology into the traditional automotive systems and enhance our platform by applying our learnings from completing over 2 million autonomous miles.” he added.
Russia’s tech firm began developing its autonomous vehicle system in 2017. Hyundai signed a deal with Yandex for autonomous cars in 2019.
