Twitter to relaunch account verification process in 2021
A new, self-serve application process will be provided through the Account Settings.

Twitter announced last month it planned to relaunch its account verification system in 2021, and it asked for public feedback on the new policy to help shape its approach to Twitter verification program.
The platform said on Thursday it received more than 22,000 survey responses during the public feedback period. Many of respondents recommended categories for verification including academics, scientists and religious leaders, according to Twitter.
A statement made by the company regarding the issue says individuals in question may be considered under the “activists, organizers, and other influential individuals” category until adding new categories to the blue verified badge plan on the platform, which let people know that an account of public interest is authentic.
Under the new policy, Twitter will verify accounts in those areas, including government officials; companies, brands, organizations; news organizations and journalists; entertainment companies; sports and gaming; activists, organizers, and other influential individuals. Twitter made a detailed explanation here.

Twitter stopped its verification system in 2017 due to verifying Charlottesville rally organizer, Jason Keller, who defends white supremacist. San Francisco-based company announced work on the verification system would take a long time.
Either a verified email address or phone number, a profile image and a display name are the requirements stipulated by Twitter for a complete account.
How to apply for Twitter verification next year
There will be a new, self-serve application process in 2021 that will be provided through the Account Settings. Applicants will select a category for their status they want to be verified, in addition to identity confirmation via links and other supporting materials.
Account verification is just one of Twitter’s work. There will be more account-related improvements which are: automated account labels and memorialized accounts. It seems the platform wants to make an ambitious return after three years.
