Supernova Recording for the First Time: Astronomers’ Stunning Discovery
No need to imagine a colorful stardust explosion, we just documented it!

The discovery of a supernova published at The Astrophysical Journal has claimed to document and record the end of the life of a red giant, which has been the first recorded visual of the event. The supernova, which has been documented to be a Type II category, has provided beautiful scenery for scientists and space enthusiasts.
130 days of supernova observation
“The University of Hawaiʻi Institute for Astronomy Pan-STARRS on Haleakalā, Maui and W. M. Keck Observatory on Maunakea, Hawaiʻi Island, the Young Supernova Experiment (YSE) transient survey researchers observed the red supergiant during its last 130 days leading up to its deadly detonation.”
The star was located in the NGC 5731 galaxy. Which is a galaxy located 120 million light-years away from us. The exploding supergiant had 10 times the size of the Sun.
New data to work on
As one can expect, this provided new data for the scientist to work on. Since there was no recorded evidence for what massive stars were doing before they died, most information out there was mostly theories and mathematical expectations. Now, we can put our calculations to the test.
As the team reports, one of the most interesting new discoveries found in this observation was that the stars were thought to be relatively quiet before exploding, however, in this discovery, they found out that bright radiation, violent eruptions, and luminous emission were seen before the supernova.
As we continue to record events like this, our understanding of certain astronomical events is surely about to improve.
